Ireland is a highly developed democracy with a modern economy. Ireland Visa
If you are a citizen of a country that is on schedule 1 below, you do NOT require an entry visa for Ireland. Citizens of countries which are not on the list must apply for a visa to enter Ireland before they travel here.
Transit Visas ARE required by citizens of the countries listed in schedule 2 below.
All citizens of non-EU countries, whether they require a visa or not, are subject to immigration control at the point of entry to Ireland.

A person in possession of a Hong Kong certificate of identity requires an entry visa for the State.
Persons who are holders of a British Hong Kong Passport who have a right of abode in Great Britain do not require entry visas.
Persons who are holders of a British Hong Kong Passport who have a right of abode in Hong Kong only do not require entry visas but they are subject to full foreign national controls in respect of registration, permission to remain, work permits etc.

Citizens of certain countries require an entry visa for Ireland. For more information on Visa-required countries, please click here. Applicants for a visa who are not in Ireland should contact their nearest Irish embassy or consulate. Applicants who are in Ireland and wish to renew their visa or have other queries should contact the Visa Section of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
In the case of applicants who are resident in Great Britain, information on Irish visa requirements can be obtained by calling a premium rate number, 0906 6610197. Calls cost £1.50 per minute at all times (Call costs from mobile networks may vary from one network to another). Opening hours for this line are 9.00 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday except for Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day, New Years Day and Good Friday. All visa enquiries to this number are handled by ABTRAN. This enables the visa section staff to concentrate fully on processing visa applications as quickly as possible. Calls cost $2.90 per minute at all times. Opening hours for this line are 8.30 am EST to 8.30 pm EST Monday to Friday except for Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day, New Years Day, and Good Friday. All visa enquiries to this number are handled by Abtran. This enables visa section staff to concentrate fully on processing visa applications as quickly as possible. In some cases, applications are referred by Irish embassies and consulates overseas to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for decision, as that Department is responsible for deciding on the admission of visa-required persons to the State.
In January 2006 the Government established the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service within the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and this agency is responsible for processing all visa applications made within Ireland. The public office is located at 13/14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2.
